Summer camp has been really nice so far. Now that I’m Junior-Assistant Scoutmaster (JASM) I get to do whatever I want for the most part. When the scouts are gettin merit badges, I’m at camp, sitting around, writing, reading, or playing baritone. When they come back for meals, they can be loud and stuff gets stressful, but I can deal with things. I’m taking the only night class offered, Communications merit badge, and seeing as it’s required for Eagle, I decided to get it. I’ll be working on it today.
I went to bed at 11:30, woke up 7:30 to keep up with camp’s sleep schedule.
Anyways, besides sitting around, I’ve been paying my favorite camp areas some visits, the shooting ranges. The guy running rifle and shotgun is this old dude named Ron, he’s been working here forever. Knows me quite well for a camp staff member. My constant re-arranging of the positions annoys him (left handed FTW!), and he got a bit mad at my troop for being loud, but we’re still cool. I bought 12 shotgun shells, hit 10 out of 12. The first miss was legit, I know I’m not perfect, but the shot after that I lost balance just a bit. >.<
The archery guy, Kyle, used to be in a troop that camped with us a lot, he’s really chill. I’m gonna need to hang out at the range more, he’s offered it so I can escape the young scouts that my troop is swarming with.
Speaking of that, camp is a bit strange without my usual cast of scouts. The guy that was SPL before me couldn’t come due to work conflicts, the guy that was my ASPL was kicked out (still don’t know why), and another guy left at that time. Whenever I wanna reminisce about the old days, I find that nobody is there to do that with.
As for today, I’m gonna try to not get too used to the comforts found in civilization, as after the parade my band is marching in is over, I’m goin right back to camp.
Oh, and me bringing my baritone, I’m doing all the standard bugle calls. I must say, Playing Taps on the bridge, surrounded by fireflies, under a starry night, is quite a powerful experience. I have 2 more opportunities to do that this year.
that I won’t be sleeping well tonight. Imma label it paranoia and hope for the best. 12 hours from now I will be at scout camp, normally I’ll be gone all week, but I’m coming home late Wednesday because I have a parade to march in Thursday. I remember how last year, everyone was all “omg Bob Imma miss you!!!1 T.T”
This year, not so much. Not that I’ve really told anyone like I did last year, but it’s the same basic routine. Except camp isn’t much to be excited for this year, I tried not to go for that and other reasons, didn’t work out.
Well, see you later, Tumblr. I’ll probably update you on Wednesday and Thursday, but until then, this tower remains silent.
Status I typed after hearing a crazy loud car horn, but deleted for maybe obvious reasons:
To those asshats that insist on having extremely loud vehicles,
You do NOT need to put a train horn on you car. I don’t need a heart attack every time you show off how loud you can get. And based on the clapping I heard after that, you guys are stupid white people that need to find something to do before I rip your spine out and floss with it.
In the ‘related to your post’ thing, FB recommended that I like the National Rifle Association.
I’m guessing it’s from the “Stupid white people” part.
I’m just trying to watch Ao No Exorcist in piece, and he has to barge in, demanding that I get up before noon, call him when I wake up (this morning he called me 4 times, emailed me, and FB inboxed me, but when I call back, the phone rings for 2 minutes so I hung up then), asks what I’m doing tomorrow as if I fucking know, then demands I work on merit badges to get Eagle. I know I need to take care of that, but, today was my first day post bandcamp, you can’t pressure me into doing things like that. I’ll do it when I feel like it.
Then he demands I go to bed “not late” and sits there in awkward silence.
are you colorblind? ç.ç how do you see your bg? like, in which colors?
I am indeed colorblind. My background (dashboard, I assume that’s what you’re asking?) appears blue on the outside and darker blue around the stamps that you click on to make new posts. When they changed it purple in memory of that guy who committed suicide, I didn’t notice any difference.
The background to my blog, well, space is black, stars are mostly white, some yellow, and a few blue ones are hangin around here and there. The nebulae appear white, blue, and some red is in there.
The best way to describe my colorblindness is that certain colors are hard to distinguish, when I played Candyland as a child the green cards looked orange, to me, purple is just dark blue, and often times unlabeled crayons are the hardest things to work with.
I woke up at 1, and I haven’t done anything yet today. Seeing as both of my parents work nowadays, my days will go like this. It’s good to relax, but will I be able to adapt to this new lazy life?
It’s almost dinnertime, I’m trying to transcribe a Linkin Park song for solo euphonium before I have to eat, I haven’t played euph in a while (2 weeks now) due to switching to tuba for band. I hope I wont sound terrible when I pick it up tonight.
Every year our band preforms down at the best amusement park around after we finish band camp, needless to say, this is always amazingly fun and I enjoy this tradition extremely.
We start with a short parade, the tuba instructor volunteered to march with us, some other staff helped fill in some holes (a band member has been in jail all summer, another went to St. Louis today, etc..) a former band member, who dropped band for an art class, is somehow able to preform here and enjoy the benefits of such a day, without the week or so of hard work, but she’s in my inner circle, so I’ll allow it.
We parade to in front of this ride thing, and we preform our dance number, a large crowd drew to us today. :D
The rest of the day is ours, going from ride to ride, bonding in a way only band kids can. I noticed that the rides, although feeling faster, are less scary nowadays.
Besides the Dragster, as it was my first time on. For those unfamiliar, you get shot down the track, then turn up 312 feet, and then back down to the ending point. All in 13 adrenaline filled seconds. Sounds terrifying, right? Looks even more.
Feels like: -woosh- “woah, we up high.” -weee!- done.
Millennium Force has to be my favorite. You can see Canada while you’re up there. Last year I missed it because a friend was crying on my shoulder. Not this year. Seeing the whole damn Lake Erie at once is interesting. While riding it, I nearly blacked out 3 or 4 times.
Ride photos are always weird, and those games to win stuffed Pandas and shit are rigged. My friend did one of those strength tests, got 99/100…. Fail!
Amusement parks are curious, though, you can suffer pain in so many ways, restraints too tight, and they crash right into your junk, people getting headaches from bangin into shit, but we all willingly stand in line for it.
All in all, it was great chilling with some great people, it’s these guys that I’ll never forget. Next year I’ll be a senior and I might not be able to do this after that.
I think I forgot to mention this yesterday, but the sousaphone feels like 5 pounds now.
So today is the last day of actual band camp, we ran the shows like crazy until it became presentable. Then we waited for our first preview show of the day.
It rained. Ok, we’ll preform in the gym.
I played my ass off, and at some point one of the trumpets said “too much tuba.” After the show, I asked the tuba instructor how we did.
"We’re in the gym, you can only hear drums and some trumpet."
But I was unphased, as I knew me and Zelda did great, I never felt so attached to an instrument before. Tonight I know we’ll kick ass.
Oh, we got the new summer uniform t-shirt. It’s this design with a treble clef on it and it says ‘derpville High School band.’
I’d rather it be a bass clef.
After that, while the rest of the band was engaged in a waterballoon fight, me and some people went to Convenient. There are these drinks they have, Neuro. They come in different varieties (Neurosonic, Neurotrim, Neurosleep, Neuorgasm, etc.) And each type does something different. I went for sonic, it improves concentration and memory (as if I don’t already have a hyperactive memory.) the mellophone kid gets two sonics (why two?), and the trumpet gets neurogasm. This stuff increases blood flow, stimulates your pleasure senses (the light infront of your face that says “food, sex, food, sex.,” it betters performance, and improves satisfaction. That, to me, says “only drink this before you have sex.,” but homeboy drinks it anyways. And shares it. >.<
Trumpet kid winds up alternating between being horny and being mello, mellophone kid gets hornier than usual, This quad playing chick drinks it and instantly declares she has a ‘good feeling in (her) vagina.’
I decided to take a shot, and I felt this ring of energy around my dick.
Then we go into the basement and break out some Smirnoff Ice. I had maybe 3/4 of a bottle. This other guy that was there, an alumni that plays F horn and so happens to be gay, decides to keep the last bottle. In my bag. There’s no way I’d feel confident bringing it in my house.
So we decide after drinking, nobody wound up tipsy or anything, to chill outside. The quad girl gets a call from this one whore. “I’m comin over.” So we all start talkin shit about her before she gets there. Between what people said, and what she said later on (Where can I get a morning after pill? And if a guy cums in you, but it falls out, can you still get pregnant?), destroyed the ghost of a chance of me being interested. Protip: If you havta ask “can I still get pregnant if..” then yo ass is pregnant.
(Has to finish writing) We then went to DQ and now we’re all happy and shit. Preforming another show soon, and band is goin to Cedar Point tomorrow!
We had a student in our band, his name was Mathew. He was a senior apart of the class of 2010. He was the most cheerful member always excited to come to band class. He would always sit right next to the first row clarinets smiling and waving his shaker. He was always smiling,…
Very touching, this is one of the best things bands can do, my band similarly preformed at an event in memory of a 3 year old who died from pulmonary hypertension, if only we raised as much as these guys did.
So this morning, my shoulder was all “Noooo! not more of this! -hurts-“
I get there and I’m told we are inside all morning (it’s raining? I didn’t notice) Note: it wasn’t raining.
We got a lot done on the music, and ran the show a few times, we have 2 performances tomorrow!! I was struggling with one song, but now that our instructor showered us in the theory behind basslines, I’m more confident.
At lunch I had my first Monster ever, it didn’t do shit.
And my shoulder doesn’t feel sore at all! it hurt more this morning >.< And Zelda felt lighter than ever.
Remember when you were younger, in elementary school, and you would take all kinds of random field trips? You’d go to the zoo, the symphony, fire station, even the local jail in some cases. The trips we took as kids served a sole purpose: to educate us. Give us culture. Expose us to the world…
Really good point. I’ve had one outside of band trip, all it did was show me a college I’m not going to. The people running this thing need to use their brains.
So I’m browsing the Gamefaqs forum on Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and I feel so awkward because I’m not as nerd as the people that are posting. I’m just trying to get info on what looks to me like an epic game (1:1 swordplay? sign me up!), and they’re talking about timelines and why Gannon should/n’t be in the game and bashing Twilight Princess for the storyline/ brunette Zelda (I liked both.) and I’m just sitting here confused.
I’ve never beaten a Zelda game yet, I’ve played (in order of me playing) Wind Waker (stuck at Fire boss), Ocarina of Time (don’t remember where I left off), and Twilight Princess (stuck right before Water dungeon? then my friend wanted it back.)
I picked up WW recently in effort to beat it before SS comes out.
